Weak flow or noisy pump
Intermittent faults (works then fails)
Persistent error codes (including HL)
If you’re not sure what’s wrong, don’t worry — the point of the service is we test and diagnose properly rather than guessing and swapping parts.
HL Error Code on Cleverspa, What it means + what causes it
Seeing HL on a Cleverspa hot tub usually means the unit believes it’s overheating or detecting an unsafe heating condition — so it shuts down to protect itself.
Why HL can happen (the most common causes)
1) Constant HL often needs pump or probe attention
A repeated HL fault is very often linked to either the pump side (circulation problems) or the temperature probe / sensor giving incorrect readings.
2) Fast temperature rise
If your tub shows a rapid temperature increase (or “jumps” in temperature), the heater can trigger HL because it thinks the water is heating too fast or not moving correctly past the heater.
3) Impeller or water pump issues (restricted flow)
A worn, damaged, or slipping impeller — or a weak/failed water pump — can reduce water flow through the heater.
Low flow = heat builds up in the heater area = HL triggers.
4) Water level over the heater / control panel area
Make sure the main body of water isn’t sitting too high over the heater/control pack area (especially if the unit has been moved, tilted, or is sat unevenly). If water is affecting the control area or circulation path, it can contribute to strange behaviour, sensor errors, and repeated HL shut-downs.
What you can try before booking a repair (safe checks)
Clean or replace the filter
Ensure proper water level (not too low, not flooding the control area)
Check for strong jet/return flow
Power off at the mains for a few minutes, then restart (only after checking the flow)
If HL keeps coming back, it usually needs proper testing of the circulation system and sensor readings — and that’s exactly what we do during the repair process.

FAQs
To repair liner punctures, the heater/pump (control) unit must be removed first. Once it’s disconnected, you can then send the liner to us for puncture repair.
It depends on the fault and workload, but once it arrives we aim to process as quickly as possible. fast track service is also available on request.
If it’s not economically repairable, we’ll advise you with the test results and best next steps.
Not always. HL is often caused by flow problems or sensor/probe issues, not just the heater itself.
Tripping can be caused by heater faults, moisture ingress, damaged wiring, or internal component failures — diagnosis is included to identify the real cause.
